About GREEN-LOG
The world is experiencing unparalleled growth in last-mile transport following the unprecedented growth of e-commerce. This new reality brings a number of challenges to urban and peri-urban ecosystems and puts immense pressure on courier companies for seamless servicing of higher volume home deliveries. Against this backdrop, GREEN-LOG, the Horizon Europe co-funded project, aims to accelerate systemic changes and create last-mile delivery ecosystems that are economically, ecologically, and socially sustainable. GREEN-LOG offers Logistics-as-a-Service platforms for interconnected city logistics, automated delivery concepts using autonomous vehicles and delivery droids, cargo-bike-based innovations for sustainable micro-consolidation, and multimodal parcel deliveries integrating public transportation. The solutions are supported by networked city logistics dataspaces that supply dynamic services for proactive ecosystem optimisation while respecting the interests of stakeholders including consumers, businesses, and the city. The GREEN-LOG approach is deployed and validated in five Urban Living Labs, an inclusive set of demonstration sites that cover EU regions with different Urban Logistics characteristics and varying challenges. Three follower cities that experience rapid economic and social change and are highly interested in tailoring and replicating GREEN-LOG solutions will benefit from intensive transferability acceleration actions. |

On 18 June 2026, GREEN-LOG joined forces with DECARBOMILE, POLIS Network and ALICE ETP to organise the 4th Urban Logistics Innovation Day in Brussels, bringing together more than 100 urban logistics practitioners, policymakers, researchers, industry representatives and European Commission representatives from across Europe. The event marked the final conference of both projects and provided an opportunity to showcase years of research, pilot demonstrations and collaboration aimed at accelerating the transition towards sustainable and zero-emission urban logistics. Throughout the day, GREEN-LOG partners presented key project results, innovative digital solutions and lessons learned from Living Labs across Europe. Discussions focused on trusted data sharing, real-time planning tools, consumer behaviour, shared logistics infrastructure, scalability of innovative solutions and supportive policy frameworks. The event also featured contributions from other CIVITAS Initiative projects, including DISCO, GreenTurn and CODE ZERO, fostering valuable exchanges across the urban mobility and logistics community. A key message emerging from the event was that many of the technologies and solutions needed to improve urban logistics are already available. The challenge now lies in scaling them up, developing viable business models, strengthening collaboration among stakeholders and integrating urban logistics more effectively into city planning and mobility strategies. The event highlighted the GREEN-LOG Logistics-as-a-Service (LaaS) concept and demonstrated how collaboration can make last-mile logistics more efficient, sustainable, and socially beneficial. The results achieved across Ghent, Leuven, and Mechelen were particularly encouraging, including 55% fewer delivery trips, 29% lower delivery costs, and the redistribution of 1.42 tonnes of surplus food.
